Pre-purchase/Valuation Surveys, Insurance Survey

I have decided to no longer separate insurance and Pre-purchase surveys. Basically the buyer and the insurance companies require much of the same information. I try to be through and locate problems before they become an expense and use the same format for both types.

In the past I used a table to price on a per foot basis. I found that with this system some customers paid too much and others not enough. In the future I will be quoting costs based on a per foot or hourly rate after discussing the age and type of vessel as well as what information the buyer/owner is wanting.

Generally the cost will range from $16.00- $20.00 per foot with older larger vessels costing more and newer ones less. This is because I will spend more time on an older vessel as there is likely to be more needing attention.

Base Minimum of $150.00

Damage and Corrosion Surveys

Will be billed on an hourly rate of $60.00 per hour, if required I will try to give an estimate of the time needed but with this type of inspection it is often impossible to predict what will be found and the time needed to find accurate answers.

Turnaround time is normally 48 hours or less from completion of inspection. This can be expedited if need be. Survey can be faxed, e-mailed or express mailed if requested.

ONCE YOU RETAIN THE SURVEYOR, HE OR SHE WORKS ONLY FOR YOU AND REPORTS TO NO ONE ELSE. THE SURVEYOR IS THERE TO PROTECT YOUR INTEREST!

Additional Costs:

Travel Time

Billed at $40.00 per hour with a 1 hour minimum for any distance over 50 miles from Wilmington.
Any additional travel related costs such as Airfare, Meals, Lodging, Car rentals, will be discussed prior to the survey.

Additional time

Additional time not normally considered part of a standard survey billed at $60.00 per hour. This includes returning to the vessel for reinspection of repaired items found in the first survey.

Haul Out

Hauling fees are not included in the survey cost

I will try to let you know in advance if I think there will be any additional charges not covered in the per foot pricing. All prices are subject to change, and negotiation if warranted by the work. I strongly believe in the "No Surprise" policy when billing. In other words you should not get billed for anything that was not fully discussed in advance. Payment is due at time of survey, and the report will not be released unless full payment has been made.
